It's a mess, basically, but it's home. [Which doesn't really make it less of a mess but it's the life she's gotten through.]

I mean, not that I'm making light of everything, but we're kind of in a constant of, okay what next at home because every time things look to be calming down, something else pops up.

My Mystic Falls had a ton of chaos, don't get me wrong, but we had a lot less... it didn't end nearly as badly. [He lets out a low, slow breath as he forces himself to take a sip.] I'm sorry, Care. I don't think it's something I can process overnight.

I'd be more worried if you actually could do that, I think. [ She set her cup down and then sighed out a breath, leaning back in her seat. ]

I don't know. [He peers back at her. She's still the young woman he loves, and yet, her life is completely different from what he remembers.] You're the one who lived it, Care.

If anything, I should be asking you that question.

I don't really know what to talk about. I mean, it happened and there's nothing I can do to change it or take back my own choices.

It's just...it's what life was at home for me. Seems like yours is a lot better, at least.

I wouldn't say better, just... different. I grew up with the Salvatores, and their powers were different, so things wouldn't have remotely ended up like they did for you.

[From the sounds of it? He would've hated her Stefan big time.]

Yeah, they showed up at the beginning of junior year at home. Came looking for Elena more or less, or at least Stefan did. Damon followed him, I think, and after that, it just kind of...[Caroline trailed off and sighed.]

It's just been messy.

Well, of course Stefan would. He and Elena are like Cory and Topanga.

[If that isn't a belief in soulmate love, Tyler's not sure what would.]

No, no, Stefan was fine, except for that whole Klaus making him flip his switch and go Ripper mode. Damon...he's a dick, first class. When he first came to town he decided since Stefan had Elena, he needed someone close to her. [Which had been one of the worst experiences of her life, at least at that point.]

It didn't really start getting bad till Katherine turned up and then we had the Mikaelsons and Silas and, just snowballing from there.

[Right, Silas. The whole doppelganger thing makes his brain hurts when he really thinks about it.]

So Damon chose you.

[He's THIS close to running into town and ripping off one of Damon's limbs. Or biting him. Vampire!Damon sounds like a world-class douche.]

How're... I don't know if this is rude, considering I don't know this Damon at all, but how're you dealing with him? Being here?

I try not to. Elena's stupid over him, but I just...I can't do it. I mean, he gets a pass from basically everyone else. He's done so much shit and he just...

[Caroline rubs a hand over her face.]

He gets a pass because it was 'the only choice' because had to do it.

Yeah, well - he shouldn't get a pass.

[Take it from someone who regrets what he did to Vicki every single day. He's not going to let someone else walk away, consequence-free.]

I don't really care what Elena thinks, let alone what she believes by making him a better person. You can't change someone who doesn't want to.

Bonnie even forgave him eventually after what he did to her mom, I don't...

I mean, okay I forgave Alaric for my dad because it wasn't him, Not really. I mean, the ring kind of screwed him over, but Damon knew exactly what he was doing every time.

Bonnie's also way too forgiving. Always has been.

[His expression softens. He can't imagine what this Damon would've done to Ms. Abby, but it couldn't have been particularly good.]

Don't let Elena's stupidity influence things. If she has a hard-on for the idiot, you don't have to sit around and watch.

Yeah. She lost pretty much her whole family. Miss Sheila, her mom became a vampire, Silas killed her dad.

I mean, I at least still have Mom. [Which is one of the few good things in her life.]

I'm kind of the lucky one in that respect.

[He blinks back even more surprise - ]

Silas killed Rudy? [He's quiet again, peering down at his mug.] Shit, um - back home? In my Mystic Falls? He and Mom were on their honeymoon.

[Care's Mystic Falls makes him so, so very worried.]

At home her mom kind of walked out when she was a kid. She had reasons, but yeah. Bonnie's dad and Miss Sheila kind of raised her after that.

And then her mom helped her with a spell, but it wasn't till Esther was using them in her ritual to kill Klaus and his siblings that Damon turned her mom. Elijah had taken Elena hostage and it was either Abby or Bonnie.

So he turned Abby. We uh...we did everything we could to help her through her transition and she did make it, but turning a witch into vampire...

Abby left again. I mean she came back when Bonnie got tied up in all the Silas stuff and expression, but.. [It had been too late then.]

It was just... A lot of shit.

Tyler's skeptical stare says enough for him because on top of what he's learned? This is the icing on the most terrible cake he's ever witnessed.]

And I keep ending up talking about it. I'm sorry, Tyler, it's just.. [ Caroline gives a slight shrug and then sighs. ]

At least everyone's happy in yours?

You still have nothing to apologize for. [Besides maybe infodumping him with far more information than he can process in one night.] Better to hear this from you than say, the slimy greaseball that used to be Damon.

I wouldn't say happy, 'cause I've got my own shit to deal with. Just... different?

Except for the infodump of stuff you don't even need to know. [But she's missed Tyler, even if this one isn't hers, but that line is one she's likely to blur easily.]

But it's kind of my thing when I'm a little overwhelmed, I guess.

I don't think you want to know everything, but you've got a point about the whole everyone being from my side of things.

Except you anyway. [...Which is a good thing in a way. Everything had gone to shit with her Tyler since Klaus had entered the picture.]

...Although I kind of prefer this you, if we're being honest. [The one she'd been happy with.] I mean, Tyler at home, he had every right to be angry and want to pay Klaus back, but it just...everything went wrong.

[He swallows down something - fear? disgust? it's hard to tell - as he peers down into his empty mug.]

Care, you can't use me to re-do whatever happened between him and you. Whatever happened is something you'll have to live with, and I don't know, something you might want to consider repairing.

[If the situation had been reversed, he knows his Caroline would've given him the same courtesy.]

I know that. I mean, Tyler and I... I burned that bridge pretty well and we've kind of moved past it, but I miss the friendship.

I miss the Tyler I knew before Klaus entered our lives. I'm not looking to retread old territory though. I'm just...

There's no way to repair it. I did the one thing he won't forgive and I knew it, but by that time, he was so far gone, I didn't really...

We're moving on. He's been kind of pursuing this new girl and I hope it works out for him.
